To become an animator you need to have a lot of natural talent. Most
animation is still done by hand, but now more and more is being done of computers. So sadly
less is being drawn by hand. I believe a true animator is a animator that only uses hand drawing
systems.
To achieve the goal of becoming an animator you need to start young.
Almost all good artists will tell you they have been drawing since before they can remember.
Other than drawing on your own you need to take classes. Such as visual arts in drawing. A
computer graphics class in also a good thing to have on resume.
The surrounding at work won’t be all that grate when I start out.
Most beginners start out drawing at a small table with other artists. Getting your own tracing
table and elbow room is a lucky thing to happen. So with animation the better the artist the
bigger the office. Your lucky just to get your own office as is.
Most animators work full time. This means that they would work for 40
hours a week, with a half hour lunch. Some little breaks here and there as well.
When you start as at this job you start with a less the important jobs. A
beginner will start out as a in-between artist os a story board clean up artist. But as you skills
improve you will get better jobs. Such as drawing the main animation and coloring the hand
painted art.
The responsibilities of an animators as simple; draw what your told and
you get payed.
Moving ahead in this business is a very common thing . You start as a
clean up artist and can end up producing your own movie. For example Hayao Miyazaki started
as a lonely in-between and soon moved up and up to become a very well known movie producer.
He has made may popular movies such as "My Neighbor Totoro", "Kiki’s Delivery Service", and
his better known "Spirited Away." Which he has won 3 awards for. You may have seen the
commercial for his newest movie to come out in theater "Howls moving Castle." My dream is to
be like him and grow up from a cleanup artist to a accomplished producer.
I’m sure this career won’t be amazingly different when I get out there into
world. I hope that there will still be a lot of good old hand drawing artist So many thing are
starting to be done on computers now. I wouldn’t doubt that some time soon people begin to like
more of the Pixar Disney movies. Than using peoples natural ability to make drawings come to
life . All you do on the computer is click on a body shape ans add in graphics for detail and ta da
it’s done in maybe a day or so. But hand drawing takes time to perfect and you always get better.
On the computer your limited to so much talent, you can only do so much art wise.
Along with moving in office space you also move up in how much to you
make. When you start you make about 25,000-40,000 a year. Most earn 35,000-50 and when you
move to the big leagues along with top artist and producers you can get up to 70,000-90. But at
this point you can mostly make whatever you want.
The rewards you get is the sure pleasure to be able to see your name scroll
down the screen at the end of the movie. And you know that people all over will be able to sit
and enjoy with your art in it. Weather if you only drew an arm or a few face shoots it’s still your
art. It’s still a little piece of you put into a big thing that people can watch for the rest time.
